Underfloor Heating Application Areas
Underfloor Heating Systems
These are the systems where the area to be heated is heated from the floor by consuming less energy and providing more efficient heat distribution. It is the heating of the heat in the pipes (water pipe floor heating systems) or cables (electric underfloor heating systems) placed under the floor by spreading to the space under the floor.
These systems, which were also used in ancient times, came as an alternative to classical systems. In recent years, the use of underfloor heating systems has become widespread.
Although underfloor heating systems seem simple, problems may arise in these systems if a quality and careful design is not done. Many factors such as the material of the flooring, its thickness, and the condition of the space can affect the system during the projecting phase.
Application Areas of Underfloor Heating Systems
The scope of application areas of underfloor heating systems has gradually expanded. Although it was mainly used for heating purposes in residences, it was used in a wide variety of areas such as roads, ramps, roofs, gutters, sports fields and baths.
Residences ; These are the areas where underfloor heating systems are used the most today. It is a comfortable system in terms of homogeneous distribution of heat and efficient heating. It is also very preferred because it offers an important advantage in terms of heat saving.
In large volume places such as mosques and gymnasiums ; hot air always goes up. Underfloor heating systems are preferred in order to prevent this accumulation of hot air in large volumes and to distribute the heat better. In addition, it is applied as a strip in front of the glass in places where the glass height is high or the outlets of devices such as radiators will cause problems.
In the bath heating
; In ancient times, baths were the first places where floor heating systems were used. The systems to be built in these places should be well insulated, since the temperature in these places should be higher than in the residences, the thickness of the insulation should not be less than min.5 cm. Underfloor heating systems in baths are not only applied to the floor but also to the walls (around 1 meter). Since the baths work both in summer and in winter, this situation should be taken into account in the design of the floor heating system.
In indoor swimming pools ; In indoor swimming pools, as people usually walk around barefoot, floor heating system is installed to provide comfort in swimming pools and to support the heating of the pool. When underfloor heating will be made in the pool, attention should be paid to the humidity calculation, that is, the water that will evaporate around the pool.
On roofs and gutters ; Electrical systems are used in order to prevent snow accumulated on roofs and gutters in cold winter months, and icing that will occur in gutters due to the difference in temperature between day and night.
On roads and ramps ; Underfloor heating system is used on roads and ramps where there is danger of icing and in front of garages. The system applied for these is generally an electric underfloor heating system. If an aqueous system is to be installed, it is important to add antifreeze to the system to prevent freezing in the pipes.
On the stairs ; Since the stairs are the same as the roofs and roads, an electric floor heating system can be easily made.
In heating grass areas ; Electric underfloor heating systems are also used in sports fields for heating golf, athletics or football fields. Underfloor heating systems also benefit the development of the lawn.
No matter where the underfloor heating systems will be made, the biggest factor in the project is the floor covering. Calculations are made depending on the properties and thickness of these materials.
